I’m 23 years old, working part time, and living with my boyfriend. That description does not usually call to mind an image of an uber-healthy lifestyle, and usually brings images of junk food and alcohol to mind.
Up until about a week ago, I was working two jobs, which meant I was almost always working and hardly ever home. Working two jobs means long days, late nights, and approximately zero time to take care of myself except for putting on my fitbit and trying to get in 10,000 steps a day. Well, for reasons you can read about in my last post, I no longer have two jobs, which means I finally have some free time, which means I can focus on taking care of myself.
Now I wish I could say I’m self motivated enough to just want to be healthy, but seriously, I’m 23 years old and not interested in spending the little amount of money I do have on a much too expensive gym membership, and where I live, it’s too hot to go for a run in the middle of the day, and I’m too scared of getting kidnapped and/or raped to go by myself at night when it finally cools off. But over the last few months, I’ve developed serious stomach issues. Last my doctor checked, it’s just a case of gastritis, but it’s been over a month and it hasn’t gone away, so it may be an ulcer or some other worse thing. The next step is to get an ultrasound of my gallbladder, but I’m still waiting on the call back for the appointment. In the meantime, I’m having to deal with an almost-constant stomach ache.
Which leads me to where I am today, tired of stomach problems and not wanting to rack up hundreds of dollars in medical bills trying to cure a glorified tummy ache. So, what I’ve decided to do is try my hand at “clean eating.” I’ve always liked healthy food, but lets face it, when you’re young and running around all the time, it’s much easier to go through the drive thru or get a pizza then it is to spend the money and the time it takes to eat right. So I’ll spending a lot of time on pinterest, a lot of time researching brands and food to get and food to avoid, and a lot of time meal planning and cooking, but I’m hoping it’ll be worth it in the end.
Besides just eating clean, I’ll be working out more too, going on walks in the morning or getting my boyfriend to take them with me at night when I have to work in the morning. I know I also stress out too much, which causes stomach problems as well, including one of my possible aliments (I could have an ulcer, possibly a bleeding one), so I’m gonna try to get more sleep as well as look into possibly meditating some too. I’ll be posting about any progress and more issues here, so feel free to follow along my new get healthy life style kick.
